Madame – Inspira
3. Hardened (with Deapmash)
Release Date: October 7th
Madame is the moniker of a young French producer named Louis Roche, and one can’t help but wonder what experiences this man has been through in his short life to make such punishing techno. “Inspira” will be his third release on BNR, and the EP delivers more of the dark and rough peak time DJ tools that have brought him major support in the past as well as breaking some new ground.
The title track “Inspira” drops with immediate effectiveness, alternating between a body moving electro breaks pattern and a straight 4/4 step, but it’s the pads that really make it stand out. Airy, rich, and utterly haunting in both timbre and melody, they demand an intoxicated frisson from the listener, whether chemically assisted or not. “Whisper” is tough stomper with a no-holds-barred snare roll buildup and continuing tension throughout this brutal track. To close, “Hardened” finds Madame joined by label mate Deapmash, who brings his more percussive focus to Madame’s hard techno sensibilities. The result is a ravey and utterly mad DJ tool that doesn’t let up it’s amphetamine-like hysteria.
Madame has a formula and sticks to it- but it’s a formula that’s incredibly effective, as reflected by the long list of A-list DJ’s from Gesaffelstein to Dave Clarke who have incorporated his tracks into their sets. Still, the “Inspira” EP doesn’t suggest stagnation from the producer. There’s expansion here into melody and texture not heard before, and a greater mastery of rhythm- and for a producer who’s age suggests he’s just getting started, “Inspira” marks the next step of a massive force in the making.
