TJR’s releases on Spinnin’ Records are festival-sized EDM bangers with some nods to classic rave, reflecting the work of a skilled and knowledgable producer astute in the art of making crowds go off their heads.  But it was a decades long, 303-fueled obsession with acid that lead to TJR’s new project “Rozski,”and something very interesting and unexpected happens.  That hyper-production skill and explosive energy is filtered through analogue, stripped down, true-to-era classic Midwestern acid machine funk, and the result is akin to Mike Dearborn headlining Ultra in a time-travel accident.  This is a very good thing.

Rozski’s “Midwest” EP serves two tracks of hot, dark, saturated, analogue, pure, unadulterated jacking acid that perhaps only reveal their contemporary creation by the sheer amount of hysteria they generate.  “Enter” is the more minimal of the two, with a crunchy kick, stuttering 909 snares and a deep, menacing 303 line creating a track that steadily evolves and builds- it could easily be mistaken for a lost classic.  Title track “Midwest” is a peak time acid monster, this time with a stomp-clap that pushes the tension and release to maddening heights once the track’s core 303 line is joined by a melodic top-line and machine gun snares.  Rozski stunningly flexes a mastery of classic Midwest acid with this release and begs the question – will we see an acid revival on the festival circuit this year? Rozski and BNR certainly hope so!
