Urban legend tells of a rave that never ends- a rip in time and space caused by a malfunctioning Roland Alpha Juno enabled the party to go infinitely since it’s inception somewhere in the UK in 1993. Those at this rave never age, the DJ’s never run out of records, no one needs to sleep, and the sun neither rises nor sets. Occasionally, someone leaves and comes back to the present- of course nobody really believes their story- but occasionally they do bring evidence. French producer RAITO insists he spent 10 years at this endless rave, and insists he has the records to prove it.

RAITO’s MOON DANCE EP may be our greatest clue that this rave truly exists. Pitched-down Amens stutter over driving house kicks and oldskool jungle bass bumps under piano-stab leads, as badman and diva samples hype the crowd while Mentasm hoovers erupt like distant thunder. However firmly rooted in classic rave, RAITO’s sound still strongly lends itself to contemporary dancefloors. There’s a timeless energy to the 4 tracks of MOON DANCE that make each fitting for basements or arenas, for 1993 or 2023, for the rave or the deep house function. Utterly effective in DJ sets, RAITO has created 4 secret weapons that transcend time and space, much like the legendary rave that supposedly still goes on today.

Having previously released music on Main Course and BOYSNOIZE RECORDS’s own Miami Noize 7 compilation, this EP marks RAITO’s closest synthesis yet of early UK hardcore with the massive house sound ravers are demanding today. The result is both familiar and fresh, percussive with chopped breaks but persistent in it’s 4/4 rhythmic patterns, with tension and release that excites but never exhausts. The closing track of the EP- RAVE MECH- is already buzzing online from fan videos of BOYS NOIZE dropping it at Shambhala this year. An oldskool, euphoric piano line opens up to a too-tuff hoover drop over huge house kicks, driving the crowd into a frenzy. And as for the mysterious infinite rave of Raito’s origin? It’s still going on even as we read these words, but legend says once you leave, you can never go back. The closest we can get is RAITO’s new MOON DANCE EP on BOYSNOIZE RECORDS, even if the party does have an ending.
